Jewelry – 2007 Oscar Earrings

Why are earrings the most important item of jewelry? By important I mean the piece of jewelry that will do the most for your appearance. As with all jewelry it should blend with your overall attraction. You don’t want the first comment to be about your great jewelry and then you come in second. Your overall look is what needs to be fabulous, then after the comments of how stunning you look, they can notice your cool jewelry. Later we will look at what style of earrings the stars wore to the Oscars.

Earrings are what frames your face, along with hair, if the colour and style of your earrings are right they will be like two spotlights adding a glow to your face, making it brighter and more alive. Earrings with a decoration on the front of the post, covering the pierced hole, has the reflected light starting from the right point. Earrings with a shepherd hook usually start from a lower aspect and part of the effect can be lost. Also with the shepherd hook if the earring is heavy it shows up the drag on the lobe, these earrings are probably better suited for lighter more casual wear.

Looking at the Oscars 2007. On the Red Carpet almost all of the earrings that the stars wore were decorated from the front of the post, very few were shepherd hook earrings. Most earrings at the Oscars were quite elaborate but not overly so. Some like Nicole Kidman only wore tiny studs. I only saw one star, where the first thing that stood out was her jewelry, the rest were very tasteful.

More Earrings from the Oscars 2007

Cate Blanchett – black stone on the lobe with a larger stone dropped from the first

Gwyneth Paltrow – Stone on the lobe with a large elaborate diamond shaped drop

Helen Mirren – Medium button style

Jennifer Hudson – Long drop earring with the piercing covered

Jennifer Lopez – Long drop earring with the piercing covered

Nicole Kidman – Tiny stud

Penelope Cruz – Large flower shaped button style

Portia de Rossi – A short drop from a smaller stone on the lobe

Jada Pinkett Smith – Large diamond shaped drop from a covered piercing

Maggie Gyllenhaal – A medium retro hoop with a filigree decorated boat at the bottom of the hoop – piercing was exposed.

Rachel Weisz – Stud earring

Kate Winslett – an elaborate button style

Jewelry As a Perfect Gift

Jewelry is perfect as a gift for men, women, children, your friend, mother, brother - absolutely anyone. Of course you have to tailor the gift the person who is to receive it but that’s the exciting part. Will they like it or won’t they? Most shopping areas will have stores that sell a variety of jewelry items of varying prices so you can choose a gift to fit your budget.

Do you want a simple fashion item for a teenager or a beautiful platinum and diamond solitaire for your girl friend? For a child’s christening there is nothing better than a silver or gold expandable bangle or simple cross and chain, a gift they may grow out of but will treasure as they grow. For a young man a steel or titanium dog tag is all the rage or a signet ring(with or without their initials).

Pearls with their beautiful lustre are still very popular with women of all ages and go well with most outfits from ball dresses to a simple black jumper. Rings cover a lot of special occasions - engagement, friendship, eternity, coming of age, marriage and love - for both men and women. But you do have to have some idea of the person’s ring size if it is to be a surprise and you are not taking them with you to buy it. From a plain band for in precious metals - gold, silver or platinum - to ornate gemstone rings or fashion designs with beads or stones.

Other good presents are earrings or bracelets, again now unisex. For men, single gemstone earrings, hoops, studs or drops and for women the same with some more ornate designs. Earrings come in pierced or clip-on so it is important if you are thinking of these as a gift that you know if the recipient has pierced ears. If you choose to buy a bracelet you must think of the size of the person’s wrist otherwise the bracelet may be too big and fall off or too small to fit around the arm.

If you are buying for a child you should go to a store with a dedicated children’s section. Necklaces come in lengths so you should decide on the desired effect - again if a person has a larger neck then too short a necklace will be too tight and uncomfortable to wear and not look attractive. But generally necklaces can be a good choice as they can change the look of an outfit by bringing sparkle and colour to it.

So as you can see there is such a huge choice with jewelry that there is truly something for everyone!                    By Eric Hartwell

New Pearl Jewelry Fashion

Currently, trend and fashion of pearl jewelry are often changing from one season then to another in a year. The changes look a little similar with that of costume fashion. It seems to be very hard to predict what is the coming trend or fashion. But it is not an absolute fact, as we have learned why do the customers buy a pear jewelry and what pearl jewelry is the favorite of different customers.

For answers to the above questions, some mental or psychological motives of purchase must be further concerned about, i.e. what are Pearl jewelry consumer thinking? How can the designer seize the ideas and lead them to a new tide?

Then some hints and clues of design affected pearl jewelry trend are still able to be found from the following factors:

Value: Many people have a popular idea that pearls, as one sort of gemstones can be used to keep value for long time. Moreover, high social status of a VIP may be balanced by a jewelry piece of luxury, elegance and dignity to some extent. That kind of value style of pearl jewelry lasts for ever.

Personality: When people are always getting sick of an old style, they hope for a completely fresh one. They also like to make themselves great different from others while they are choosing a pearl jewelry. They just want to find a unique and novelty piece reflecting their personality and lifestyle.

Commemoration: Birth, marriage and death are naturally essential to the course of a man’s life. His or her birth or birthday should be honored by a jewelry gift. Furthermore, promise ring and wedding necklace can witness the romance of a man and a woman’s love and marriage. When an old man has known his last days before he pass away, he likes to leave something wishful to his children. Also, a man may have some successful moments that worth memory. In such cases, Pearl jewelry should play as meaningful or precious souvenir. That kind of meaning may be source of inspiration for pearl jewelry design.

Aesthetical appealing: It is nature that people are pursuing beauty. Especially, the female are really sensitive to their images or impression that they give to the public or the male. So that pretty pearl jewelry is simply a feminine pet to enhance charming. Morality: Sometimes people may be little puzzle with new changes of future life. Moral tradition, as product of history, must be rethought to be a guide, although it may have been missed or ignored for a long time.

That is what ideas occur to the designer, a new trend or fashion is coming. A blossoming romance - purity and fragrance When a new trend can cater for customer’s demand, it will lead a fashion or tide. It requires that the elements of fashion must be derived from customer’s metal pursuit. The elements of fashion may come from the classic style, and then something new be added to them. They can also be a combination or compromise of traditional elements and up-to-date ones.

In times of peace and development, more or less, the world has departed from war and disaster. Love, great or selfish, is inevitably a thesis of life. Permanently, purity is a sound promise for love and marriage. Thus Pearl jewelry like pearl ring that comes out with a pure and holy tone will gain mother, girl and lady’s favor again.

Stressed and depressed urban dwellers are yearning towards nature. Of pearl jewelry, fragrant make or figure of living creatures can be created by precious metal piece with more exquisite modern crafts. The natural things enlighten the designer’s idea, then customer’s needs. Feminine purity and natural fragrance are combined into a blossoming romance. Here comes/ forecasts a possible new trend for pearl jewelry.            by Katinee W

Proper Care For Pearl Jewelry

There simply is nothing you can compare to the luster that pearl jewelry has. Whether you have some pearl earrings or a pearl necklace, they have a glow that just yearns to be admired. Now, whether you bought your own pearl jewelry or received one as a gift, you need to know that it is very important to take good care of it so that you would be able to use it for a long time.

If you would be comparing pearls to diamonds, pearls are a lot softer. And so, pearls need special care. Unlike pearls, diamonds have basically been compacted for millions of years deep in the earth while pearls are made and cultivated in oysters’ shells. Oysters are the ones that produce the pearl’s nacre, which gives it a luminous glow. So pearls do not have the hardness and compactness that diamonds possess.

Remember that you should not wear your pearl jewelry everywhere you go in everything that you do, particularly when you are engaging in physical activity like working out in the gym or planting in the yard. This is because the perspiration and dirt would just shorten the life of pearl jewelry. So, although pearls are generally made in the ocean, it does not follow that it would be fine to wear them as you go scuba diving, swimming or surfing. You should know that pearls are sensitive to elements so you must not show them off all the time.

Also, certain chemicals in perfumes, hairsprays and lotions can damage pearl jewelry. These chemicals could shorten the life of pearl jewelry. So it would be best to wear your pearl jewelry after you have done everything - like you have already put lotion on, have sprayed your perfume on, etc. so that the amount of their exposure to these chemicals would be limited.

And similar to other kinds of jewelry, pearl jewelry will get dirty over time. You could clean them by yourself with the use of a slightly damp soft and clean cloth. Do not use any scrubbing device such as a toothbrush or a sponge, as well as any soap or detergent.                                         By Bill Pratt

February’s Birthstone - Amethyst

Amethyst is February’s birthstone. Some might wonder whether amethyst’s rich violet hue is appropriate for a month associated with red roses and candy hearts. But as it happens, the legend of Saint Valentine says that he wore an amethyst ring carved in the shape of cupid. Amethyst beads, with their grape purple tints, have been associated with love, fertility and romance long before pink Hallmark Cards took February’s center stage.

In fact, before the legend of Saint Valentine and his amethyst ring, there was the legend of Cleopatra and hers. Though Egyptian pharaohs generally adorned their tombs with amethysts, Cleopatra wore hers on a spectacular ring symbolizing love, light and life. Cleopatra was thought to be the incarnation of Isis by Egyptians, and some Romans thought she was the incarnation of Venus, Goddess of Love. With her amethyst ring, Cleopatra was said to have ensorcelled not one, but two powerful Roman generals: Julius Caesar and Marc Antony. Perhaps it is for this reason that Roman wives came to believe that amethyst beaded jewelry would assure their husband’s devotion.

Moreover, the story that gives February’s birthstone its name is a romantic tragedy. Dionysus, the Greek god of fertility and wine, fell in love with a maiden named Amethyst. When the maiden refused the drunken god’s affections, she was turned to quartz. But when the God saw the girl thus, he was overcome with love and sorrow. He wept upon her statue and his wine-purple tears stained the stone forever.

Thereafter, ancient people’s thought that amethyst had the power to prevent intoxication. Cups and goblets were carved from amethyst to protect against drunkenness. Amethyst’s reputation for being able to grant its wearer a clear head, promote feelings of love, and ensure devotion made it a popular stone amongst the early clergy. Amethyst beads adorned crucifixes worn by bishops and cardinals, but Catholicism wasn’t the only religion to prize February’s birthstone. Amethysts are also Buddha’s gemstone and treasured in Tibet.

Amethyst beaded jewelry can be as pale as lilac or as vibrant as lilac–versatile colors that compliment most skin tones. Moreover, February’s birthstone registers as a 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, which means that it’s durable. In fact, amethyst’s beauty and durability ensured that it was once amongst the most expensive gemstones, but due to large deposits found in the modern era, amethyst birthstones are now affordable on any budget.

One drawback to February’s birthstone, however, is that daylight can change its color. Purple amethysts can be restored by means of radiation, but to preserve the intense royal color, it’s best not to wear amethyst beaded jewelry when sunbathing or otherwise exposed to intense light.

In modern times, February has become a month of sober reflection. We acknowledge the accomplishments of African Americans during February because it is Black History Month. We remember our great leaders on President’s Day, and we show our appreciation for the ones we love on St. Valentine’s Day. So too has amethyst become a modern symbol of clear-headedness and an open heart, which makes it an ideal birthstone for those born under the sign of Aquarius.        By Stephanie A White

Pearl Jewelry the Perfect Valentine Gifts

Many people have no idea how to go about picking out a piece of pearl jewelry. The following steps are guaranteed to make your shopping journey easier.

1. Accept the fact that every woman would love to receive pearls as a gift. Most women will tear up at the sight of a beautifully gift-wrapped piece of pearl jewelry. Especially on Valentine’s Day, pearls have a way of saying “I love you” better than all the chocolate or roses in the world…

2. Find out if she already owns pearls. If your gift is to be her very first pearl piece, you may go for tradition: a simple bracelet, a nice pair of studs, or, the pièce de resistance, a pearl strand. Each of these pieces is a must-have, and you can’t go wrong with classics.

3. Decide what your budget is and stick to it! Luckily for you, different pearls have different price tags. If your budget is modest, look for freshwater pearls: they are über-trendy right now and are more affordable than their saltwater cousins.

4. Consider her frame and age. Different pearl necklaces look best on different women. If she is young or petite, a shorter strand of smaller pearls would be more appropriate than a long strand of chunky pearls. In the same way, an older woman or someone with a larger frame looks best in larger pearls and can pull off longer necklace lengths.

5. Think about her skin tone. Pearls have in different overtones, which is a secondary color reflected in the pearl that complements the skin tone of the woman wearing them. Overtones can range from pink to silver for a white pearl and from silver to green for a black pearl. If she has a very fair complexion, she’ll probably look better in pearls with a rosy overtone; while a darker-skinned woman might look prefer pearls with a silvery overtone.

6. Figure out what your valentine’s style is: what kind of a woman is she? How does she dress? Look through her closet for tips: if all you find are blue jeans, choose simple pieces like pearls studs or a pendant that can be worn every day. If she’s the fashion-conscious type, then go for something trendy like a baroque pearl necklace, pearl chandelier earrings or a circle pearl pendant.                          By Elsa Perez

Valentine Jewelry

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Are you ready with gifts for your special some ones? Yes, I said “someones”. Valentine is not only to celebrate with the one that you love the most, your honey, hubby, wife and all those loving names that we tend to call them; Valentine is to celebrate with your Mom, Dad, and all family and friends. Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate LOVE.

How to Shop for Valentine Jewelry?

When shopping for you should know:

(1) What your significant other likes including colors, shapes and size.  I have to mention that the most popular shape for Valentine jewelry is the “heart shape”, of course; which you can find some beautiful heart shape rings, pendants, and jewelry sets.

(2) Who are you buying for? Are you shopping for a person that always dresses up? Casual? Sports person?  If you, after all the stress that you went through, finally come to a decision to get this big and beautiful ring with diamonds all over, for a sports person… please don’t expect the woman to wear it all the time. Pay attention to details.

(3) What does he or she need? Maybe she went shopping last week and bought this pink stone earrings. Well, now she needs the matching set. You know how that goes! Just make sure they are special.

(4) When to buy? Well, I won’t go in too much detail on this one. The time to buy would be…NOW!! Believe it or not Valentine’s jewelry specials are all over the web, so it won’t take you long to find a piece of jewelry that you like and get it at a lowered price.

(5) Where to buy? This is very important also. You should always buy from name-brand jewelry stores. Read jewelry stores reviews and make a decision whether to buy or not from a certain store.

(6) What is the price you should pay for a certain product? Let’s not talk too much about the price, but the quality of the product. Quality jewelry tends to last a lot more than fantasy jewelry, and not only that, quality jewelry looks fine. If you like non-scratch jewelry, look for tungsten rings for men, and platinum jewelry for women; these materials last longer and they keep a permanent clean look.

This is the time for you to be creative and over all to express yourself. Show your special person how much you care, put your heart into finding something special for her. She will love your significant gesture and you will receive a lot of love back. Give a special jewelry piece this valentine. If not… there are always chocolates!                 By Veronica Escobar

Jewelry as A Gift

Purchasing jewelry for someone is a very personal gift and one which will be remembered as being very thoughtful and special particularly for occasions such as an anniversary or Valentine’s Day. It can also be very confusing and frightening for the first time buyer!

One very popular way of selecting a piece of jewelry is to select the stone or gem which corresponds with the recipient’s month of birth. This way you will ensure the jewelry you select will hold a very special meaning for them.

January – Garnet
February – Amethyst
March – Aquamarine
April – Crystal or Diamond
May – Emerald
June – Pearl or Agate
July – Ruby
August – Peridot or Jade
September – Sapphire
October – Opal
November – Topaz or Citrine
December – Zircon

Jewelry trends are constantly changing so what may be popular one season may not be so popular the next. The New York Fashion Show, held twice a year, is very indicative of this. For Spring 2007 we are told that colours such as tan, red, clay, orange and brown are very popular in the fashion world and the jewelry and accessories to flatter the above trends are silver and gold jewelry, green and blue gems and pieces which feature smooth, bold designs. But this method may prove very difficult depending on whether you can find an ideal piece to suit the current trend.

The most important factor when purchasing jewelry is to know the style of the person you are shopping for. Would they prefer a classic piece of jewelry? Jewellery created using pearls (known as the “queen of gems”) as well as elegant gold jewelry is always an option.

Or would they prefer a more contemporary style? Jewelry using a variety of colourful gems or sterling silver will create a look which will make them stand out from the crowd.

One of the benefits of buying jewelry is that you do not have to spend a small fortune in order to find the perfect gift. Fashion accessories have now become very affordable and there is no need to take out a second mortgage in order for your gift to be well received. In fact most women now tend to have a selection of jewelry to suit all occasions so the importance of finding a functional or everyday piece of jewelry is no longer necessary. This way you will have more of a chance to select a piece which reflects their personality and they can wear whenever the occasion suits them!                 By Michelle Sweeney
