Jewelry Style

The perfect sense of style is not something that everyone is born with. It comes up naturally and is developed by paying attention to the current fashion trends where you can find something that suits your looks, personality and lifestyles.

Creating your own style is not a piece of cake. It’s sheer hard work. Unless you have your make-up, clothes and hair-style all decided and in hand its not possible. But the award for realizing that you look and feel great is worth of all the efforts.

Not everyone is perfect. And no one can control what Nature has given to us. But everybody can make the best over them by learning to be beautiful and expressing the unique individuality that is within.

Since jewelry is considered to be very special thing and can give that necessary finishing touch to our looks and boost our good mood as well as self-esteem, let’s practice in wearing jewelry. If you are not always sure what to wear in a particular occasion, it’s never too late to learn. Because where jewelry is concerned, the basic criteria is your Age, Height and Build.

Diamonds Rings

Diamond Rings are the gift of a lifetime for some one you love. Rings are the piece of jewelry favored by many women both for its artistic value and symbolic meaning. Rings are commonly worn on a ring-finger. Never put on 2 or more rings on the same finger. Rings with a gem of more than 10k are usually worn on a fore-finger. Besides, the best option for young ladies with thin arms and fingers is something adequate- a small delicate 2k ring.

Necklaces and pendants

As far as necklaces and pendants are concerned, it depends on the type of dress you are wearing. The right to decide as per your taste is in your hands. So experiment - and decide what works best for you. Lastly don’t wear jewelry that looks too excessive. Maintain a balance between your outfit and your jewelry.               By Neil William

Bracelects

Where did the name ‘bracelet’ come from? What is the most expensive bracelet worth? Facts and folklore about bracelets:

The first known bracelets were worn by Sumerians who lived in Mesopotamia (modern day Iraq) around 2500 B.C.E. Jewelry of all kinds was a sign of a person’s prosperity. Bracelets and other jewelry were found in the royal tombs in the ancient city of Ur in Mesopotamia. It was customary for jewelry to be buried with their owners, along with their servants. Servants probably prayed to their ancient gods for a long life for their masters because of this.

The charm bracelet was thought to have originated in ancient Egypt during the age of the pharaohs. Charms made of precious metals and gemstones would be worn on these bracelets to ward off evil spirits. These were known as Lucky Charms long before the breakfast cereal came into existence.

In ancient Greece, men and soldiers wore bands of leather on their forearms for protection. Sometimes these bands were decorated with precious metals and gemstones. They were known as Bracels, derived from the Latin word Brachium, which meant ‘arm’. Ladies were not about to be outdone by men, and so they adopted the ‘fashion’ and wore smaller versions of them, called little bracels, or bracel-ets. At least that’s the story I heard.

Bracelets made of copper are thought by some to aid in relieving the pain of arthritis. The body absorbs the copper and somehow relieves the pain. This has not been proven but people being people still wear copper bracelets, for fashion if not for pain relief. But don’t copper bracelets turn some people’s wrists green? Maybe it’s all part of the fashion statement.

Unlike other forms of jewelry, they have always been in vogue throughout recorded history, and been worn by men and women. The concept of unisex jewelry is older than people think.

They are not only worn for decoration. Hospitals use them for positive patient identification, people with medical conditions wear Medical Alert bracelets. There are also bracelets made of silicone rubber that were originally used in sports, but are now also used as ‘awareness’ bracelets for many different causes.

The most expensive bracelet in the world? This is not only a bracelet, but a wrist watch too. A jewelry manufacturer in Switzerland named Chopard wins the most expensive category hands down with a bracelet/wrist watch with over 200 carats of white and colored diamonds. The price tag? A paltry $25 million.  By Alan Beggerow

Pearl Jewelry For Everyone

Jewelry enhances beauty, and converts the ordinary looking into glamor dolls. Pearl jewelry stands out as no other gemstone as it enhances skin tone and accentuates femininity. Who was the first person to discover this perfectly round and lustrous gem? It dates back to thousands and thousands of years ago.

Pearls were the first stones that were valued and appreciated by people and are still considered as the most elegant stones that require no cutting and polishing. The gem’s beauty is outstanding from the moment it is removed from the shell. Ancient civilizations of India and China appreciated and accepted pearls widely. China’s history discusses the value of pearls thousands of years ago and also mentions that Shu King received a gift of pearls around 2300 B.C.

Egypt, the land of beauty, used pearls for decoration and Romans adorned pearls, while the women used it to upholster the sofas or add enhance to their gowns. Pearls are also mentioned in Bible and Koran. Everyone knows that women find pearls irresistible and love to wear pearl jewelry. Women find it suitable to adorn for every cultural festival.

Some people feel and think that pearl jewelry is not for men or kids, but that’s wrong. Nowadays many fashion houses design various styles for men, which they can wear daily like pearl bracelets or rings. Furthermore, the French have gone ahead and designed pearl jewelry for kids. A number of French women get their ears pierced and wear pearl earrings.

There is wide range of pearl jewelry to suit every woman’s taste. The whole family can adorn pearl jewelry, thus enhancing their style. Pearl is also considered as a symbol of purity and God’s gift and, in times gone by, it was considered as the most prized possession one could own. Pearl farmers yield cultured pearls through an extensive and grueling process. This process begins by gathering oysters, sometimes starting from formative years, all the way through raising oysters. Farmers also have to protect the oysters and keep them safe from predators and disease.

Their basic choice begins by selecting perfect oysters for yielding the best-cultured pearls and then surgically implanting the center of the pearl in the oyster thus allowing the cultured pearl to grow. This process takes a time phase that can extend in years to yield the perfect pearl. Only some of the oysters, those are grown to produce cultured pearls, provide pearls that are of sufficient quality to make jewelry.

Nowadays, all pearls that are sold in the market are cultured pearls. Many people don’t know the difference between cultured pearls and pearls produced from saltwater oysters. Conversely, the process to make freshwater pearls is the same as the one adopted for cultured pearls.

Pearl jewelry goes along with everything, from tweeds to plaids from jeans to skirts and beyond. Still not sure, as to what you want? Go ahead and choose some classic pieces for yourselves or to give as gifts. Guys love to gift pearl jewelry to their wives or girlfriends, as it is a safest bet, especially jewelry made from black pearls. So if you want something memorable and inexpensive, then think of a beautiful pearl ring or magnetic-clasp pearl necklace.   By Victor Epand

The History Of Native American Jewelry

We all know that beautifying oneself and the use of jewelry has been around since the prehistoric times. Bead making and bead necklaces called heishe, which have been derived from the Santo Domingo word for shell, have been used for ages. Shells like the spiny oyster shell, mother of pearl, abalone, conch and clam have been used in bead making and have been considered important trade items of the southwest for more than thousand years.

The use of silver in Native American jewelry is not an old concept. It has been used since the early 1850s, when the Mexican silversmiths had to trade their silver trinkets for the cattle from the Navajo. The Navajo blacksmiths then in turn exchanged their skill of silver making with the Zuni Indians for livestock. The Hopi tribe then picked up the art of silver making from the Zuni in the 1890s. It is important to note that the Native Americans in no way were linked with mining of the silver.

The styles of jewelry used by the Native American Indians:

Each Native American Indian tribe has its own distinct style. Do not be confused by jewelry that is claimed to be Native American Indian but does not have the Navajo, Zuni, Hopi or Santo Domingo styles. The Zuni Indian jewelry includes styles and techniques such as mosaic, channel inlay, cluster, needlepoint and petit point. These techniques involve the use of a variety of stones and shells.

The Navajo Indian jewelers are well known for their popular squash blossom necklaces. These jewelry artists are known to use pieces of turquoise, coral and other semi-precious stones and then these are surrounded by scrolls, beads and leaf patterns set in sterling silver. Did you know that most of the Native American jewelry produced is made by the Navajos? Their jewelry is the most popular because of the use of sterling silver and stones like coral and turquoise.

The overlay technique is the distinct style of the Hopi Indian Silversmiths. This is the technique that is used involving the setting stones in jewelry making. One sheet of silver has the design etched out and then it is soldered or overlaid onto the second sheet. The background is given a darker touch via oxidizing and the top layer is polished.

Bead jewelry is popular among the Santo Domingo Indians and they have been making this kind of jewelry for centuries. They use seashells, turquoise, jet and coral stones in their jewelry. As mentioned before, the jewelry is all made with sterling silver, which is normally a mix of 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper. And the reason copper is added to the mix is because silver is very soft and the copper gives it more strength to develop different shapes and textures.

Southwest America is a great place to find great Native American Indian jewelry. The Navajo tribe is in Arizona and New Mexico and can be easily called the largest Native American Indian reservation. The Hopi tribe is also in Arizona, whereas the Santo Domingo and Zuni Pueblo are in New Mexico.

The skills and art of Native American Indian jewelry making is passed down generations and is quite coveted. Now there are schools that teach these skills to people who want to learn. Native American Indian Jewelry is a great way to make a bold style statement.      By Victor Epand

Jewelry and its Beauty

Jewelry has greatly risen in popularity over the last few decades as one of the best gifts you can give someone. This is due to the many new options that are available on today’s wide market. It isn’t just about buying your girlfriend a little gold necklace or nice earrings to show that you care. A gift of jewelry can be the perfect way to tell any friend, relative, or lover that you really care for them.

It is not just about the piece of jewelry anymore but what you put inside the jewelry is what makes it a great gift. This has really become true thanks to all of the little customized pieces of jewelry that are now available and it is not just about the gift for them, it is also about the gift for yourself.

Jewelry can serve as a great gift for yourself for several reasons. The first merely revolves around expressing your individual fashion sense. It isn’t too expensive to get a small customized locket or charm necklace that holds a favorite symbol or picture to make you feel a little better throughout the day.

It goes without saying that jewelry can be a great gift for a loved one. A beautiful ring, bracelet, necklace, or earring should tell your girlfriend how much your care. No matter what happens, it will always be true that diamonds are a girl’s best friend. It isn’t just a little gift for a girlfriend, fiance, or wife though.

You can buy a small, tasteful locket for a friend and have it engraved with a little inside joke or picture. If you’re into the best friends forever thing, you can even get a matching one. That way either one of you can brighten up a lousy day by looking at the few words and recalling the good times.

It should be pretty obvious that jewelry is a good choice for just about anyone. It has always been a great gift to express how much you care, but it is now even available as a way to express yourself or protect your health.

Choosing White Pearl Neckleace

White pearl necklaces are always a beautiful, classic gift and will fit right in with any occasion, whether it’s a wedding, a birthday, anniversary or just about any day that calls for giving. White pearls have an elegance and quiet beauty that is appreciated by any woman of any age. When cared for properly, they can last for years and years, which is no wonder that in any heirloom, pearls are one of those which stand out.

Traditionally, white pearls were given during weddings. It was believed that a gift of pearls ensured the happiness of married couples. Nowadays, white pearls are worn anywhere – in board rooms, parties, family get-togethers, bars – in just about any special occasion that calls for dressing up without dressing too much.

Natural vs. Cultured

Natural pearls, as their name implies, are produced naturally by oysters or mollusks. They start off as irritants (a grain of sand, piece of food or a parasite) that enter the shell of a living oyster. As a reaction to this invasion, the oyster produces nacre to contain the irritant. This coating is put over it in multiple layers until the irritant is completely covered and a shining pearl is born.

Since natural pearls are made ‘accidentally’ and therefore quite difficult to come by, cultured pearls were developed to meet the growing demand for pearls and to protect pearl oysters from over-harvest and extinction. Cultured pearls are also real pearls, except that instead of waiting for an irritant to invade an oyster, pearl farmers introduce a ‘nucleus’ to stimulate the production of a pearl.

White pearl necklaces come in varying lengths for different styles and occasions. When buying one, it’s worth remembering that a white pearl necklace is an accessory and can enhance or affect the entire look of the wearer.

Longer strands are used to make short necks appear longer, while shorter strands flatter longer necks. The most common lengths that white pearl necklaces come in are: the collar, choker, princess, matinee, opera and rope.

Collar pearls are the shortest at 14 to 16 inches long and may be worn with formal or semi-formal evening wear or semi-formal day wear. Chokers are 16 to 18 inches long and are the common choice for dances and balls. Princess necklaces are the most popular length at 18 to 20 inches long and look great on any outfit.

Matinee pearl necklaces are 20 to 24 inches long and can be worn for work because it goes well with work and business suits. Opera pearls are 28 to 34 inches long are often worn during formal parties.

Rope pearls are the longest, starting at 37 inches, although they don’t necessarily need to be worn just hanging from the neck. Like opera pearls, rope pearls may be knotted or doubled and may even be worn as a wide pearl bracelet.

Choosing the right style

Pearls are quite adaptable and will work well with almost any kind of gemstone. Alone or in combination with another gem, white pearls look stunning. White pearl necklaces come in several major styles: the bib, dog collar, graduated and uniform.

The bib is made of several strands, usually three or more, that varies in length and fall over the chest like, well, a bib. The pearls on the strands may either be graduated or uniformly-sized.

The dog collar, like its name, is made of several strands and is worn to fit above the base of the neck, right in the middle of the throat. The pearls that make up the strands are uniform in size and may either be small or medium-sized.

The graduated necklace is made up of either a single strand or several, with pearls of graduated sizes. Usually, the middle pearl is the largest in the strand. The uniform necklace uses the same size pearls in its strands and is probably the most common.

Choosing the right size

White pearls come in different sizes, with the most commonly used and sold ranging from 6.5mm to 7.5mm, while really small pearls measure 1mm or less. Some of the bigger pearls are in the 14 to 18mm range.

Generally, smaller pearls are best for younger women and children while medium to bigger pearls are flattering for older women. One of the reasons for this is tradition. In the past, the size of the pearl reflected the woman’s maturity and social status and so she wore the kind of pearls that were deemed appropriate for her.

The other reason is aesthetics. Younger women tend to have younger necks and the best way to show this off is to wear smaller pearls. Pearls of this size also do not look borrowed and women don’t seem to be playing ‘dress up’ with their mother’s jewelry. Older women are better off with medium to bigger-sized pearls, which also imply that she has reached a certain status in life.   By Nathalie Fiset

Minoras are popular jewelry items worn in the Hanukkah season. Although winter itself is not a holiday, other jewelry items such as snowmen, sleds, and snowflakes are cute pendants, earrings, and pins that are given as presents but can be worn throughout the cold season.

Halloween probably runs a close second to Christmas as far as jewelry goes. Everyone from office workers to moms at PTA meetings like to do a little dress up for Halloween. On the actual night of Halloween, costume parties are great places to wear those skeleton earrings and spider pins.

In the United States we all like to wear our little flag pins as a symbol of commitment and reverence to our country. These can be seen every where and on almost anyone of any age. They are also popular to wear on Memorial Day and on Veteran’s Day. It is a wonderful symbol to show that we support our country, especially lately. The Historical of Freshwater Pearl

The freshwater pearls are cultured in a mussel usually in a lake. They can also be found in rivers and streams. The traditionally cultured pearls are often found in the oysters residing in the ocean. These are called Akoya pearls. Freshwater cultured pearls are cheaper than the Akoya pearls.

Freshwater mollusks more often than not have pearls that are so marvelous to behold in terms of luster and color. The usual color of freshwater pearls are pastel shades of pink, peach, lavender, black, white, purple, plum and tangerine. The color really depends on the kind of mussel the pearl was found.

Also, some types of freshwater pearl mussels can produce dozens and dozens of pearls all at one time. The local freshwater pearls One mussel can actually have a maximum of 50 pearls. Saltwater pearl-bearing oysters known as the gonad still contain freshwater pears. That is because one side of the bivalve consists of 25 nucleations at a given time.

Natural freshwater pearls are rarely perfect in shape. They are somehow round or nearly round, never a perfect circle. Oftentimes, they can be considered as baroque, wings or slugs.

The pearls obtained from these freshwater mussels may either be natural or cultures. Either way they have beautiful colors and produce an appealing luster. It is common for freshwater pearls to have a wide variety of colors as mentioned in the previous paragraph, but the in demand colors are the pastel pinks, lavenders, roses and purples.

Not only do they come in an array of colors, they also come in various shapes. Some freshwater pearls are button shapes then there are others of flat flakes and rice shapes even. And since the freshwater pearls are rarely round, whenever there is one that is a perfect circle or something close to it, then that is generally more expensive.

Freshwater pearls have been part of history. In fact, they have been considered to be precious all over Europe, Asia and America for thousands of years. By the turn of the 20th century. Freshwater pearls were made into buttons in the Midwest.

While in the East, Chinese pearl farmers were molding tiny Buddha images from the pearl mussels they have obtained. This resulted to the Buddha bluster pearls which turned out to be the world’s first ever cultured pearls.

In the 1800, rulers from the Oing dynasty, especially those residing in Manchuria, considered the marine pearls to be prizes. Pearl culturing were popular in China around that time.

After the first world war, pearl farmers started cultivating freshwater pearls by utilizing the native pearl mussels located at Lake Biwa in Kyoto, Japan. Until now, Biwa pearls has become synonymous to freshwater pearls.

The peak of the production of the freshwater pearls were in 1971 when the pearl farmers in Biwa produced six tons of cultured pearls.

Nowadays, freshwater mussel shells are the materials for beads. That is why pearl farmers the world over are always on the look-out for freshwater mussels. The more cultured the pearl, the better.

Sadly, in North America, more than 35 kinds of pearl mussels are already nearing extinction, mainly because of pollution and marine destruction. Conservatives aim to protect the remaining freshwater pearl mussels.

Nowadays, because of the history of freshwater pearls and the value it has obtained throughout the years, jewelry made from this material is still considered to be one of the top-selling pearls.    By Nathalie Fiset

Earrings A Jewelry You Can Afford

Jewelry is the secret weapon of every female celebrity, whether she’s strutting down the red carpet or stepping out to the corner store for another box of ginger tea. A sparkling pair of chandelier earrings, a bracelet dangling sentimental charms, or a striking gemstone pendant necklace all add a precisely personal touch to their outfits and over time, each individual celebrity’s accessory style becomes part of her signature look. Unlike clothing, the most beautiful jewelry is timeless, so it can be worn again and again, with almost any outfit.

However, just like clothing, jewelry colors and designs must be tailored to the individual wearer to complement her natural features best. So while you study Halle’s style, keep in mind that accessories are your opportunity to make your ensemble specifically yours and to develop your very own personal look.

Halle is rarely seen without her signature three or four inch gold hoop earrings. These accessories combine classic gold and strong, traditional lines for a wearable look appropriate at any occasion. The thing that makes Halle’s lobes special is the fact that her hoops are all subtly different.

Sometimes she adds a small dangling gemstone, other times the hoop does not reach around 360 degrees, and other times the hoop is not perfectly circular. All of these variations add a bit of personality and texture to a piece that is so recognizably Halle.
